Just a little update.

Hi All,
Gosh, what a beautiful day!!!  I have the windows open and actually wore jeans and boots this morning!  I love this type of day where it's chilly in the morning but just right in the afternoon.

I've had several questions this week about preschool, moving, etc.  Thought I would take a few minutes to give a quick update.

Preschool:
Still loves it!!  She is always excited to go and thinks the morning goes by way too fast.  She really loves her teachers and is starting to learn all of the kids' names.  She already has a best friend.  On the third day, while playing outside at recess, she asked a little girl what her name was and they hit it off. Her name is Charli and Ry talks about her non-stop.  When I pick her up from class and her friends are all saying "Bye Rylee", she just says, "Bye Charli!".  Both her teacher and I remind her to say good-bye to ALL of her friends.  I hope she isn't driving Charli nuts....sounds like she tells her every day that she is her best friend and gives her hugs.  We even have to wait outside of the building to tell Charli good-bye for a second time every day.  Crazy girl!  We did find out that Charli will live close to us when we move, as will another boy from her class.  This is great news, as Rylee didn't want to move to the country because "There aren't any kids in the country."

I am getting to know some of the parents, particularly the mother of the boy who will be our neighbor.  They were excited to learn a family with young kids was moving into the house we bought.  We are equally as excited to get to know them better.  I have also recognized several other parents and a teacher from Rylee's school....a classmate from high school and a couple people I knew at UNI.  It's really starting to feel like home and we couldn't be more excited for our new adventure!

With Rylee in school four mornings a week and Wyatt in "school" two mornings a week, I get two mornings "off" :)  I won't lie, I look forward to these mornings!!  So far I've gotten to go to Target without kids, the grocery store without kids, and clean house without kids.  This has all been heavenly!!  This morning was really awesome as I went to a farm antique sale in a cool old barn in the country with James and then checked out some of the local shops in our new hometown.  I found some really neat stuff for our new house!!  I got a chair for $9 that I was going to pay $70 for at Homemakers!  I also found a cute pink nightstand for Rylee's room for pretty cheap.  I can't wait to visit these shops again once we get moved and know what else we will need.  I was surprised at what all our small new town has for shopping!  #ShopLocal

The Move:
We are less than three weeks from closing...EEEEKK!!  We are so excited, we can hardly stand it most days!!  Everything is going smoothly so far.  We still haven't found anyone to sublease our current house though - that's stressing me out big time!!

James has met and been in touch with the sellers of our house and they are so happy to have a young family moving in -- that was their hope.  They also asked if we would be willing to keep their cat. Apparently Heidi, the cat, owns and runs that farm and she isn't wanting to move ;)  We are happy to take care of her, of course!

I mentioned previously that the new house has blue carpet and green countertops.  I originally thought I would update those right away, but at this point I just want to get moved and settled and am not thinking about updates.  We keep discussing how messy our kids are and that we have one more to potty train yet -- new flooring can wait!  It will be nice to get rid of the carpet at some point though since the current owners have several indoor pets.

We got rid of so much furniture when we moved from Truro because we were planning to build a much smaller house.  Since this house is bigger than what we planned to build, it's going to look very empty even after we move in!  That's okay though...I like empty space better than clutter.  We will eventually get it filled.  Our realtor sold us a couple of recliners she was getting rid of and we've had a few others give us some furniture.  I really want to get a dining table and bar stools sooner than later, but we're working on it.  The folding table and chairs is working just fine for now ;)

If anyone wants to help us move or knows someone looking for a house to rent in Ames, let us know!!

Okay, I think that's it for now.  Rylee is asking me to do something with her -- guess I will :)  I definitely miss that little bug when she's gone at school.  Yesterday I was wishing so bad that I could text her...I had something I just had to tell her and I didn't want to wait!  :)

Preschool Day 1

We all made it through day 1!!  What a fun morning we had!  It was such a big event in our house this morning, as well as last night.  We laid out everyone's outfits last night, picked what we wanted for breakfast in the morning and went to be early.  I set my alarm for the first time in a long time.  I'm not sure I'm going to like that part of this whole "school" thing :)  I can't remember the last time I showered before 7 am!

I was so afraid I would miss my alarm this morning, so it took me awhile to go to sleep.  I woke up a couple of times in the night to check the time.  6:10am, the alarm went off and I jumped out of bed.  I got myself showered and dressed and then Rylee came out of her bedroom ready for her big day! Wyatt followed shortly after.  I got them breakfast, ate some fruit and then we got the kiddos dressed.
Rylee has been into having her picture taken lately, so she happily let me take a million pictures of her this morning :)

Wearing our 'Best Friends' necklaces :)

Rylee asked to ride in Daddy's truck to school (of course -- it's way cooler than the van), and Wyatt never passes up an opportunity to ride in the truck.  So, I rode alone in my soccer mom mobile to the school.  Until we get moved into our new place, it's a 25 minute drive to school 4 times a week.

On my drive I was checking my mood -- nope, not really sad.  That lasted until I helped Ry get out of the truck at the school....

I held her hand as we walked up to the school.  The other kids were all standing outside with their parents because they don't let us in until a certain time.  As we were walking, Rylee said, "I'm a little nervous."  I assured her it was okay to be nervous and that the other kids are probably all nervous too.

After just a couple of minutes we got to go into the building.  There was a line of staff (the principal, etc) welcoming us to the building with a cheery "Good Morning".  I started to feel the emotions building up.

We got to Rylee's hallway and were headed to her locker.  When she opened it and hung up her back pack all by herself my heart melted and I almost completely lost it!  "I'm not going to make it," I thought.

I held her hand tight as we walked over to the sign in sheet.  My eyes were getting a bit glassy and I could barely read the sheet.  I signed her in, gave her a big hug and told her to have a good day.  I was pretty choked up, but I managed to say, "I can't wait to pick you up and hear all about your day!"  And then, just like that, she was whisked into the room by her teacher and I had to get out of the way for the next parent to say their goodbyes to their child.

On the way out of the school I was able to gain my composure and think about what was next on my "to do" list for the day.  Since I had Wyatt with me and had to make sure he didn't get run over by cars in the parking lot, I didn't have much time to process how hard it was to leave my baby girl.

Fast forward three hours.....
I couldn't wait to pick up Rylee and got there about five minutes early.  We had to wait outside once again until they let us in.  When we got to the classroom hallway we had to stand in line and wait our turn to sign our child out and get them from the classroom.  When it was my turn and I saw her coming out of the room, I got choked up again!  She looked five years older!! I was just sure I missed more than three hours of her life!

She went to her mailbox and got her drawing she made and then came out to me.  I gave her a hug, told her I missed her and we went to her locker.  Wyatt got her pack pack (as he calls it) for her and we headed down the hallway.  I told her I couldn't wait to hear about her day!

Once we were in the van I asked her a million questions about her day.  I think we talked about her short three hours the entire 25 minutes back to Ames.  To Summarize:
* She loved it
* She can't wait to go back tomorrow
* She finally remembers her teachers' names
* She doesn't know any of her classmates names
* She liked "choice time" the best (she played with the kitchen set)
* Recess was fun and she didn't need a push on the swing
* Drawing was fun
* None of the kids cried :)
* She had a banana and chocolate milk for snack
* She likes bananas now (won't eat them at home)
* She needed help getting her milk carton open
* One of the boys (of course - hehe) got in trouble

I knew she was going to love it and I'm so so glad she did!!

As it is very hot today and our pool is still open, we went for a short swim before coming home.  I would say this day has been a success :)
