Fruit Infused Water

Water has always been my drink of choice.  I haven't had milk since I was real little and had an allergy to it and pop is too sugary and just not something I normally want to drink.  I like sports drinks and flavor powder (like Crystal Light), but they sometimes upset my stomach.  So, I just keep it easy and stick with water.  It's the healthiest thing for my body anyway.  Some days though I need a little pizazz to my water.

I started putting lemon in my water a few months ago and have really been enjoying that for a little flavor.  It's very refreshing.  I try to have a few cups of hot water with lemon each week too...usually first thing in the morning or sometimes at night before bed.  I keep reading about all of the benefits to drinking warm lemon water and I have to say that some are working for me very well.  From foodmatters.tv:
  • Lemon is an excellent and rich source of vitamin C, an essential nutrient that protects the body against immune system deficiencies
  • Lemons contain pectin fiber which is very beneficial for colon health and also serves as a powerful antibacterial
  • It balances maintain the pH levels in the body
  • Having warm lemon juice early in the morning helps flush out toxins
  • It aids digestion and encourages the production of bile
  • It is also a great source citric acid, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium
  • It helps prevent the growth and multiplication of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections and diseases
  • It helps reducing pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it dissolves uric acid
  • It helps cure the common cold
  • The potassium content in lemon helps nourish brain and nerve cells
  • It strengthens the liver by providing energy to the liver enzymes when they are too dilute
  • It helps balance the calcium and oxygen levels in the liver
  • It is of immense benefit to the skin and it prevents the formation of wrinkles and acne
  • Aids in the production of digestive juices
  • Lemon juice helps replenish body salts especially after a strenuous workout session
This past week I went out on a ledge and changed up my water routine.  One day I put strawberry in with my lemon.  It was very good and I loved the small change in flavor.   Today I gave strawberry and kiwi a try.  It's de-lish and might be my fav so far.  I'd like to try mint in my water too but I need to figure out where I can buy mint leaves.  There are so many "recipes" out there and I cannot imagine that any of them are bad.

Though they are available, I don't use any special type of fruit infusing cup.  I like my fruit to float in my water...it looks pretty :)
